sempra energy’s corporate responsibility report

Corporate Responsibility Reports allow companies the opportunity to be transparent with their stakeholders about their efforts and challenges related to people, planet, and profit. Sempra Energy, a San Diego-headquartered company that develops energy infrastructure, operates utilities, and provides related products and services to more than 32 million consumers worldwide, came to us for their seventh Corporate Responsibility Report. Their goal was not only to inform employees, shareholders, and the public about its overall business approach and sustainability efforts, but also to find a better way to ensure those audiences could easily access their key stories and topics.

Sempra’s 2014 Corporate Responsibility Report was the fourth consecutive report we’ve worked on with Sempra. Each year we assess the success of the previous report, report download analytics, trends in CSR/Sustainability reporting, as well as any new or updated goals for the report. For 2014, we helped Sempra move from a printed PDF report to an interactive website, shifting the focus to a collection of key topics that are most relevant to Sempra’s customers, shareholders, environmental organizations, and the general public. By shifting to an interactive website, Sempra now has the ability to update these key topics at any time.

This year’s report theme, “Growing Responsibly,” focuses on the ways in which Sempra is growing their business and expanding their service area in a sustainable way. thinkPARALLAX was challenged to transform the data that had always existed in a comprehensive, printed report into an engaging online experience. thinkPARALLAX introduced a color strategy, typography style and clean infographics that achieved a fresh look for this year’s report. We employed Q&As from leadership executives to address each of the key topics, giving weight and legitimacy to the issues that matter most to stakeholders.

In addition to the report website, thinkPARALLAX designed a downloadable GRI index, email template and a By the Numbers fact sheet that could be used both internally and externally to easily share the data and highlights across four business units – SDG&E, SoCalGas, Sempra International and Sempra U.S. Gas & Power.
