Communicating a global wireless technology company’s purpose of innovating for the greater good

A global leader in wireless technology and innovation, Qualcomm has entrusted the thinkPARALLAX team with multiple key initiatives over the years, ranging in scope from public affairs to sustainability and social impact to employee engagement.

We worked with the team at Wireless Reach, a Qualcomm program that brings advanced wireless technologies to underserved communities globally, to showcase their efforts and increase engagement around their program and individual projects. In addition to building an online community through compelling social media content, we served in a strategic consultant role for the internal PR team to ensure all events, conferences, webinars, and project site visits were accounted for within the content framework.

We collaborate with Qualcomm’s Employee Communications team to create their “Annual Report About People,” an internal report that highlights the year’s accomplishments and employee activities. When Qualcomm first came to us, they wanted to create a report that celebrates employees, company culture, and their business and technology achievements. They not only needed a unique and engaging way to connect with their audience, but also a way to identify and gather information that would be authentic and interesting to their internal audience. Over the years, the report has taken on many different shapes and looks, from an anniversary yearbook to scientific journal, and even a travel guide. What started as an informative piece for an engineer-dominated audience has evolved into a highly anticipated keepsake that helps unite Qualcomm’s nearly 24,000 worldwide employees. The report and has become an integral part of the company’s employee culture.

We work closely with the government affairs team to communicate the benefits of connectivity and innovation to an audience that evolves with the rapidly changing technology industry. Our strategy was to showcase the transformative positive impact Qualcomm technology has had on the world, humanizing the content to create a relatable, human-centered brand. At the same time, our strategy focused on amplifying the potential of Qualcomm technology in the future, advocating laws and policies that protect patents and nurture innovation.

And because Qualcomm’s leadership is focused on ensuring its workforce of engineers, scientists, and business strategists remains engaged in a culture of teamwork and passion for the things they create, we’ve collaborated to support meaningful employee engagement efforts. Our team helped bring to life the Qualcomm Cup, an international tournament where employees from around the globe came together at the company’s San Diego headquarters for a week of games and team building. thinkPARALLAX was tasked with initial brainstorming and designing team logos and collateral, which helped make the Qualcomm Cup one of the company’s most successful events to date.

Creative, methodical, on-budget, responsive — the designers and project managers at thinkPARALLAX have been my reliable external team for projects large and small, from museum exhibits to magazine ads, website design and curation to execution of an online app. They’re the best.
